Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer, visiting the site clean up event Fall semester

Freedom by Design is the hands-on, community service aspect of AIAS. In FBD we use your talents to help design something to better the community. This year, AIAS NYIT Manhattan's FBD team is working on revitalizing a park on 148th street in a very creative, collaborative design process.

By joining the FBD program, you will have the opportunity to engage with the local community of the park, and use that experience as a training ground to be a skilled architect. Within a year, you will be able to add a built project to your resume, all while gaining AXP hours! And even more valuable, you can see your designs come to life and take them from start to finish.

The current project is sited at a 7,500 square foot park on 148th street. Although the space is great, poor planning and site conditions haven't let it reach its potential. Freedom By Design students are tasked with designing a solution that not only aesthetically appeals to the community, but also serves as a solution to drainage issues.
